...Government in the works....

I am a Berkeley High student... this is a blog for my AHA senior gov't class

Senior…

So many good memories!

From my speech at the walkout!

PROM

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST…… MY AHA FAMILY… being their wierd selves <3

The best thing about being a senior is probably the fact that everyone keeps telling me that I’m a senior…

I would go back and tell my freshman self not to procrastinate. It causes so much more stress then there needs to be.

I think that all of the Occupy stuff that has happened this year will have a direct impact on my future. Especially, the stuff around education. The rise in school prices will probably make me go into debt in the future, because of the rise in tuition prices. Its amazing to be part of a global movement, that will have so much impact on  me.

My senior song…. “La parabola dei battagghi” by Talco. Fast, upbeat, different, a little crazy and hectic at times, and in a language that i don’t understand.

I have learned a lot about communication and the importance to staying on top of your work even though it is hard and not so fun. I have learned that deadlines in art are a serious thing, and can completely impact the outcome of a piece.

I feel like this drawing sums up how I feel about ending my senior year.

Motto “All things must come to an end…”

JUNNNNNIORZZ

JUuuUUUUUUNOIRRR

I played the leading actress in the play “You’re Every Wish

The hardest thing about being a junior was studying for the ACT. It was so tedious and boring. I ended up taking it twice, but again it was better than taking it rushed senior year. There was also alot of pressure to think about college. I had no idea what I wanted to do at all. That was kind of stressful.

I remember the tsunami in Japan. It was super scary. Then there was the nuclear meltdown! IT was horrible! I remember the US was trying to decide whether to evacuate US citizens. Then everyone was afraid that the west coast would get hit with big waves.

A big surprise was how much easier it was than people kept telling me.

I remember learning about how to identify rhetoric in writing and what it meant. I also did a lot of poetry analysis, which was really fun. I remember learning about the U.S. involvement in

I was super proud to get a leading role in the play. The play wasnt that good, but it was fun and I made a lot of new friends.

Motto “Finish it, even if you have to stay up all night”

Sophmoric

Me, Lili and Eliane my very good Swiss exchange student friend.

Draggg par-tayy

I remember that when I returned to bhs in sophomore year, I remember the newness had all worn off, I wasnt as excited and the work felt more like work.

I definatly remember the BP oil spill. My whole family was so upset. I remember the Tiger Woods scandel as well. Its all pretty hazy though.

I was super proud of passing Beckers class in 10th grade. I remember it being very difficult and struggling a lot with the essays. Becker expected so much from us. In the end my writing ability grew enormously! It was totally worth all the work!

Motto: “My brain is exploding!”

FRESHY

MORP! Oh jeeze… what a terrible night!

b) Obama was elected president on my birthday in freshman year, I remember everyone was so excited that no one remembered that I was turning 15! :)

c) I remember learning about how race and gender roles are social constructs from Ms. Erby. It kinda blew my mind a little. I also remember her giving us the word “bitch” as a vocab word and talking about why she didnt like it. Mama Erbs made me a feminist.

d) If I could re-do one thing from freshman year, I would probebly have tried to make friends with more people from different schools.

This is funny… this is literally from my “Artifact” project from 9th grade. This my Great Grandma Pearls locket. I had to draw it and talk about why it was a cultural artifact.

e) My motto would have been “Just keep swimming!”

Tumblr Assignment #17

I dont have any credit cards and I dont particularly want any. I have a debit card, but its set up so I cant overdraft. I’m really careful with money in general.

A few facts that suprised me

-90% of college students with credit cards have debt credit dept!

-In America, credit cards on campus have been a disaster, leaving students buried in debt before graduation, often with little hope of paying off the debt before high fees and interest double the amount,

-This study and previous surveys find that “credit card use has snowballed in the last decade” on campus. In 2004, the average college student had $946 in credit card debt. By 2009, the average stood at more than $4,100.

I found out that only 9.4% of college students actually pay off their credit each month. That means each month more and more students are getting into bigger and bigger debt. This hits close to home because Im going to college next year. Im very afraid of debt… I kno i’ll probably already gonna have to pay off loans for years and years after…

THE FED: #18

1) The Fed is the Federal reserve bank!

2)The Federal Reserve was created by the U.S. Congress in 1913. Before that, the U.S. lacked any formal organization for studying and implementing monetary policy.

4)The Federal Reserve’s responsibilities include:

  • conducting the nation’s monetary policy to help maintain employment, keep prices stable, and keep interest rates relatively low
  • supervising and regulating banking institutions to make sure they are safe places for people to keep their money and to protect consumers’ credit rights.
  • providing financial services to depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign central banks, including playing a major role in clearing checks, processing electronic payments, and distributing coin and paper money to the nation’s banks, credit unions, savings and loan associations, and savings banks.

5) Some people believe monetary policy is too tight. The faliure of the fed to stop inflation etc etc

THE MOTHERSHIP WATCHES ALL

6 things rich people NEED to stop saying: #16

1)”Well, $500,000 a Year Might Sound Like a Lot, but I’m Hardly Rich.”

2)“‘Sure, it’s an objectively large sum of money,’ they say. ‘But it is far smaller after I spend it.’” ahahaha that is funny

3)They think they are saying ”Come on, we’re all in this together! It’s not like I have infinite money.”

4)I think its incredibly insenstive and actually kinda insulting. Like what-her-face Mitt’s wife what did she say. Some thing about being poor at heart? BS YOU ARE WORTH 200 million!

1)”I worked hard to get what I have”

2)”it implies that money earned is a perfect indicator of a person’s value to society — if you’re broke, it must mean you’re a loser who contributes nothing to anyone’s life.”

3)they think they are saying “Im not Paris Hilton! I work 70 hr weeks to make this money”

4) I definatly respect the work that they do, but they also need to realize that alot of people work harder and longer than then for way less money.

1) “If I can do it, so can you!”

2) “You can’t have a society where everyone is an investment banker. And you can’t have a society where you pay six figures to every good policeman, nurse, firefighter, schoolteacher, carpenter, electrician and all of the other ten thousand professions that civilization needs to survive (and that rich people need in order to stay rich).”

3) they think they are saying “This is America! Anyone can make it! Get out there and get rich!”

4) Its the whole idea of the American dream, nice in sentimentality… in actiuallity.. not so reasonable.

1)”You are just jealous because I made it and you didnt”

2)”all of our fucking heroes are millionaires.”

3)They think they are saying “It’s wrong to tear down others instead of improving your own life!”

4) Yah this is pretty annoying. Sure we are jealous… but saying it like that makes it sound petty and stupid and oversimplifys the situation. PLUS all of the famous ppl we love are rich…

1) “You shouldnt be punishing the ones who make this country work”

2)”You didn’t get your job from a poor person, but collectively their money made it happen. Which is just a long way to say the obvious: That rich people don’t make the world go around. It takes everybody.”

3)”If you punish success, society will collapse into communism!”

4)There the implication that all of us underlings are working for the rich man, which is annoying of course, but i dont think they realize what this implies totally or why people get mad about it.

1) “Stop asking for handouts, I never got help form anybody”

2)“I’ve been on food stamps and welfare. Did anybody help me out? No.”

3) They think they are saying “I pulled myself up by my bootstraps!”

4)”I think your parents poured untold resources into your hungry mouth. I think you had a roof over your head that was paid for by other people, I think you went to schools that were built and staffed and paid for by other people, I think you felt safe because the streets were patrolled by other people, I think you drove to your three jobs on roads paved by other people, in a car built by other people and burning oil that was drilled by other people in a nation whose borders were defended by other people.” I love this quote. It pretty much sums up my feelings!

Tumblr Assignment #15a

  • We use 20% of the worlds oil resource. It is not t sustainable, and most of it comes from other countries, especially the middle east
  • High gas prices force us to look for ways to make energy more  efficient. This will be good for the country but no politician wants to be the one to do it.

The high price of gas is not Obama’s fault. It was a giant chain of events. The price of gas is high, but I don’t think this will stop people from voting for Obama. In the long run tis will be better for the country.. “It would force consumers to be more fuel efficient, and it could help balance the federal budget.” Although an unpopular decision it is probably the best there is to offer right now.

“Let em eat cake YO!” Tumblr #14b

“Let them eat cake” - Princess Marie Antoinette (There is not actual record of her saying this. It supposedly reflected the princess’s oblivion to the condition of the people in her country)

“I don’t even consider myself wealthy… We can be poor in spirit.” - Ann Romney

WOW…. Like the beautiful and out-of-touch Marie Antoinette, Miss Ann Romney (net worth over 200 million) appears to be tripping serious balls.

I’ll have some of whatever she’s smoking, please!

I honestly don’t think anyone that rich can be treated unfairly. Im sorry Ann, but that was an insanely silly thing to say. You are among the wealthiest people in the country, there is really no way you could ever be “poor in spirit”. You are the very definition of “1%er”.

Both Ann and her husband are very out of touch with the middle and lower class. I really don’t think they truly intend to be insulting, but they flout so high above everyone else they have no points of reference. ALSO if Mitt really wanted to help and connect with the lower and middle classes he wouldnt be so adminent about removing social safety nets.

Im sorry guys..Ya’ll are bubbleheads… go dry your tears on some Benjamins…..

NOW On to SANTORUM! aahahahahahahahaha

1) He is being verrrry stupid in alienating the women (who make up over half of the US) who use contraceptives. Lets see…. thats like most of them…. Its so wierd that women should want to have sex without getting *gasp* pregnant. Anyway, I could say more about that, but its just too obvious. :)

2)Dan Savage! The person to redefined the term “Santorum”. He did it because of Santorums platform and attitude towards gay rights. Discusting, vile and utterly brillient!

3) Its so not okay for google to omit sites from a “public” search engine, despite how gross “santorum” is.

4) My top hits for Santorum were:

Rick Santorum Wikipedia

Pick Rick for President (in Kanas)

Spreading Santorum (hmmmm ahahahahah)

annnnd

“Rick Santorum’s Anal Sex Problem”

I’ve heard rumors of the new definitions… mostly from talking to people about it. I really have no interest in looking it up… if thats okay :)
